Tough battle in Mayo cycling championships

Westport was the venue recently for the second ever Mayo Cycling Championship. The event attracted the best cyclists that Mayo has to offer with in-form riders such as Patrick Clarke from Castlebar and professional rider Charles Prendergast from Louisburgh taking their place on the starting line along with 51 other cyclists from the nine cycling clubs in Mayo.

Achill Island and Louisburgh longlisted as Best Place to Holiday in Ireland

Achill Island and Louisburgh have made it on to the longlist in The Irish Times’ competition The Best Place to Holiday in Ireland. It will join 23 other holiday hotspots in the race to be named as Ireland’s best place to holiday. The other finalists include Dingle, Inis Meain and The Shannon River. Every county in the country was represented in the competition, with over 1,400 entries submitted in total by members of the public. New HSE West ambulance base opening in Mulranny

The newly completed HSE West ambulance base located one mile west of Mulranny village will commence day operations next month according to Mulranny GP and former TD, Dr Jerry Cowley. The new base will provide state-of-the–art ambulance services to the local populations of Achill, Corraun, Mulranny, Tiernaur, Newport, and Louisburgh, and north along the N59 towards Ballycroy and Bangor Erris.
